SPEECH BY HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR, COUNCILLOR HAMUTENDI KOMBAYI AT THE SWITCHING ON OF THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS CEREMONY
CIVIC GARDENS
1900HRS, FRIDAY 19 DECEMBER 2014
I would like to thank you all for attending this important function where we mark the beginning of the festive season by way of switching on the Christmas lights.
On behalf of council, as the First Resident, I would like to wish all the residents of the City Of Gweru a happy and safe festive season and a prosperous New Year, that is 2015.
Ladies and gentlemen, as we gather today we should be reminded of the fact that the Almighty God privileged us as we a journey in both space and time from January 2014 to the present day. We should therefore feel indebted to the Almighty for allowing us to pass over what could have been dangerous circumstances in the course of the year 2014. On the same note, we should pay condolence to the families of those who passed away before the festive season. We remain with them in spirit and pray to God to allow their souls to rest in peace.
Since the festive season is a merry-making period characterized by parties and celebrations, let us also remember the less privileged members of our community.
In conclusion, I want to most sincerely thank the Gweru community, that is, both individuals and corporate entities for their unwavering support towards the Mayor's Christmas Cheer Fund over the years. this has enabled the mayor to assist the less fortunate members of our community. I would therefore, like to implore all of us to maintain this good spirit all the time.
I also wish to thank all those who have contributed towards the success of this function.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is now my singular honour to switch on the Christmas lights and officially declare the festive season started in the City Of Gweru.
I thank you.
