15 contestants for Miss Gweru
THE stage is set for the annual Miss Gweru pageant that will be held on Friday at the Cathedral hall. The 8th edition of the much hyped pageant will see 15 contestants battling it out for the coveted crown which was last year won by Carol Ngwarai. The event will run under the theme “Nurturing a positive attitude towards women empowerment”. Speaking to Chronicle Showbiz, event organiser and founder of Image Modelling Agency, Mavis Koslek, said the aim of the pageant is to empower the girl child.

“Our main aim is to recognise, develop, empower and educate the girl child through this pageant. It’s our duty to educate them to impact positively on society. We seek to give a chance to young women to be a voice in the community,” she said.

Gweru based Zimdancehall chanter Legion, rapper Guluva7, Atlanta dance crew, Takura, B-Hood and Ur Highness are some of the artistes expected to set the stage alight. “We’re calling out the people of Gweru to come in their numbers and support local talent. I promise that it’ll be nothing but the best as we have a number of artistes lined up for the performance. We have artistes from Harare, Bulawayo and Gweru,” Koslek said.

In last year’s edition, Carol Ngwarai was crowned Miss Gweru, Chenai Makumure was crowned the first princess whilst Patience Nyakomba walked away with the second princess title.
