Petros Sibanda joins Gweru City

AMBITIOUS Zifa Central Soccer League outfit, Gweru City enlisted the services of former Lancashire Steel midfielder, Petros Sibanda as assistant coach for the forthcoming season.
Prior to his appointment Sibanda was the head coach of Gokwe side, Chomumvuri Pirates whom he guided to the Central Soccer League from the Zifa Midlands Division 2B League.

City were promoted from the Zifa Midlands Division 2A League, which they won comfortably with three games to go.
Gweru City secretary Malvern Paradza confirmed the appointment of Sibanda on a one-year contract and will feature in the technical team, which consists of head coach, Jeremiah Neganda and Emmanuel Mangena who is the goalkeepers’ coach.

“I can confirm that we have roped in Petros Sibanda for the entire season as assistant coach in our quest to win promotion to the Premiership next season.

“I can confirm that we have roped in Petros Sibanda for the entire season as assistant coach in our quest to win promotion to the Premiership next season.

“As Gweru City we believe that Sibanda’s wealth of experience as a player and coach will come in handy in our quest to conquer the Central Soccer League,” he said.

Paradza said that “Chiwororo” as City are affectionately known have already begun preparations for the forthcoming season.
He said: “Preparations for the coming season are already in full swing. We began training on Tuesday last week.

“We retained the bulk of players we had last season but we are still in the process of recruiting new players to reinforce the team to do duty this season.”

Sibanda also confirmed joining the Gweru-based side and dispelled rumours that he quit Chomumvuri Pirates in a huff after the club management failed to pay him his outstanding dues.

“It is true that I am now the assistant coach of Gweru City. The reason why I left Chomumvuri Pirates is that I am an employee of Lancashire Steel and commuting from Kwekwe to Gokwe was not feasible therefore I opted to join Gweru City,” said the former Warriors fringe player.
