Following a lull of three torrid years in which they languished in the murky world of First Division football, Chapungu appear to have regained their wings and are now the only unbeaten team throughout the top four leagues in the country. The Air Force of Zimbabwe side is a clear favourite for
championship honours in the Zifa (Central Region) Division One and could become the first from the four feeder leagues to secure a ticket to the topflight Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Chapungu have so far cloaked 15 victories from 18 outings, the rest ending in draws, and will be out of reach by the next five matches should they maintain their flying colours.
Coach John Nyikadzino told The Sunday Mail that his lads were not taking prisoners as they bid to return to the top-flight league after suffering relegation in 2010.
We have very high chances of being promoted, as long as we remain united I do not see anything stopping our march. Definitely there is stiffer competition in our league this year but our record of 18 games no defeat shows we are not in a joking mood, said Nyikadzino.
Nyikadzino assembled an astute technical department at the beginning of the season which features former Chapungu stalwarts Alphonse Mugovera, Tawanda Marimo and Dumisani Mupfudze while he also hired Chinese-trained physical instructor Sipho Kuphe as fitness coach
